HISTORY, CLIMATE AND ACCESS

Borovets is Bulgaria’s oldest winter resort, dating back to 1896!  Today Borovets is the biggest and most modern resort in Bulgaria. It is situated on the conterminous Borovets col and on the northern slopes of the Mousala ridge in the eastern part of Rila. Nestling among stunning  pine trees at a height of 1390 meters above sea level (with highest pistes at 2600 m) its a perfect resort for skiers of all abilities.

In the Winter the resort is usually mild and enjoys fabulous snow coverage! The average temperature during the coldest month January is 4.8ºC.  The slopes of Borovets typically have ample snow from mid December until April. The air in Borovets is clear, free of any pollutants.

Borovets is also easy accessible.  Just 50 minutes by road from Sofia’s international airport (allow 1hr 15 in case of heavy snow)  and just 12 km from Samokov on a major connecting road.   There is also a  regular bus to Samokov leaving every 30 minutes.  Should you wish to fly to Plovdiv, this is still only 1hr 30 mins away by road transfer.
